Who knows why?
Maybe she's as screwed as her husband. I can picture her, a la Kathleen Turner in Serial Mom, screaming obsenties over the phone.
For those who do not know, porn enthusiast Clarence Thomas was nominated for the Court by George H.W. Bush. In the confirmation hearings, a number of women were willing to come forward about Thomas' pattern of sexual harassment. Anita Hill went first.
And, due to the attacks and Dems being scared, Anita Hill was the last at the hearings.
Now, years later, Virigina Thomas, possibly drunk or stoned or high or messed up on crack, decides to call Anita Hill and tell her that she (Anita) needs to apologize.
Come to think of it, she must have been on a crack pipe to make that call.
We need an intervention for Clarence's wife.
Charlie Savage and Tamar Lewin report on the call for the New York Times.
Anita Hill told the truth. Many women my age watched those hearings in shock -- I did -- at the way Anita Hill was treated.
But she stood up to all of that. She made it through it. And she did an amazing thing. Many, many women have found strength and inspiration in Anita Hill's actions.
I know I usually cover the economy but this is a very important issue to me. If you're not old enough to remember the Hill - Thomas testimony, ask your mother. I bet she will remember. We were told by the GOP that Anita was lying. Women fought back. We knew what she said because so many of us were nodding in recognition. We've been there. So while some GOP-ers and some late night comics thought it was fodder for jokes, we knew what was going on. And as more and more people learned, Anita Hill was applauded the way she always should have been.
