I recoiled in horror this evening while listening to NPR's All Things Considered.
It was one segment in particular. Tom Bowman, not a smart person, was finishing up his chatty gossip (don't call it news) speculation and he declared, "Iraq is, sort of, you know, working its way out of. And Afghanistan? The Obama administration has effectively kicked that can down the road . . ."
Iraq is working its way out?
Out of what?
What an idiot. What a damn fool.
Over a year after they held elections, they still do not have a full Cabinet. They have no Minister of the Interior and they have no Minister of Defense.
And, as anyone reading C.I.'s writings knows, it appears that there's about to be a major power struggle take place. Nouri may or may not continue as prime minister.
Add in that the violence is up again. Add in that the Pentagon announced another US death in Iraq -- making 3 soldiers who have been announced dead, 2 yesterday and the 1 today -- and Tom Bowman's making these ridiculous claims?
What an ass.
What a stupid, stupid ass.
"Trina, are you going to write about the job figures?" I wasn't on Friday. I had other things to do and was too busy. Now?
The 'reduction' was hogwash and it's amazing that not only did the press pretend otherwise but the White House chose to stake out a position on what they knew was a faulty interpretation of the data.
This is C.I.'s "Iraq snapshot" for Monday:
