If you missed it, his confirmation hearing was today. C.I. was there and reports on it in her snapshot (posted at the end of my post). Other than C.I. has anyone really paid attention?
Why is she and she alone has to raise the issues?
Before today's snapshot, she'd already logged serious time on the issues and on the objections.
And where is the press?
Or even the cowed Senate.
C.I. has made a coherent argument against McGurk that holds water.
Here I focus on the economy and I'm going to swipe the economic issues she's made to explain to you why you should be alarmed by Brett McGurk's nomination.
1) He is Barack's third nominee for the post. Barack has nominated Chris Hill and James Jeffrey previously. Both were confirmed. Both left their posts.
This is the third ambassador.
That is not normal.
That would be bothersome if it was the Ambassador to the Court of St. James. But it is the ambassador to Iraq. Where everything has been falling apart repeatedly.
2) Today he bragged to the Senate Committee about his involvement in all the meetings about the drawdown. It's at those meetings, he forgets, that it was decided to leave the huge footprint, US footprint in Iraq. One that the New York Times reported last month has already cost the US taxpayer $50 million for the year thus far.
And he sees this as something to brag about?
And wants us to pretend that now that he says it's too big that's proof of his wisdom?
Where was the wisdom before the millions were wasted?
3) He has no administrative experience.
And he's going to be put over the biggest US Embassy in the world?
4) He got married in 2006.
That didn't stop him from fooling around in Iraq in 2008 when he romanced Gina Chon of the Wall St. Journal with e-mails about the "blue balls" she was giving him. He told her, in e-mails, that they had to keep it a secret from Ryan Crocker (then US Ambassador to Iraq).
Now this man who refused to follow the rules (State Department frowns on extra marital affairs and you can be written up for them) is going to be put over ensuring others follow the rules?
5) This guy doesn't speak Arabic.
6) He's not even 40.
And he's about to be put in charge of the biggest US embassy in the world, the most costly.
How much money is the White House going to waste?
This is C.I.'s "Iraq snapshot" for Wendesday:
