Another Iraqi Christian is dead. AP reports, "Parliament lawmaker Imad Yohanna, a Christian from Kirkuk, said the man was kidnapped because he is Christian. Yohanna said Christians are seen as easy targets because they usually pay ransom without a fight, as opposed to Arabs whose tribes generally attack to free the victim." C.I. covers it in the snapshot but I felt I should note it as well. Many of Iraq's Christians are Catholics and as a Catholic it is the very least I can do. (All deaths are tragic. I'm not saying he was 'more special' because he may have been Catholic. I'm saying I am Catholic so I should note other Catholics.)
Iraqi Christians have been targeted in the latest wave since October 31st when a Baghdad church was assaulted and over 50 people were killed.
In other news, if you missed it, we hit the debt ceiling today. Did the world come to an end? No. Remember that when they start telling you that, due to the debt, they have to cut Social Security or other needed programs. Remember it and refuse to fall for their spin.
I sometimes think that they refused to address the economy (the administration) just so they could have an excuse to try to gut the safety net and rid the country of people's programs.
This is C.I.'s "Iraq snapshot" for Monday:
